Wreaths made from phesants
«

I just got back from SD a couple of weeks ago and brought back 25 skins from the birds we shot. I am planning on making Christmas wreaths out of them. My question is when I get done skinning them and putting the in coleman fuel then the borax, can I leave them in fridge till I need them or will they dry out on me? any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Even in a fridge they will dehydrate over time, plus you run the risk of mold or mildew, I would freeze them until you need them. I often skin,flesh,tan , and freeze in a plastic bag . I will thaw and then mount when convenient. paul

Sikk;
Thank you for the prompt answer. I guess they will go back to freezer. As long as I keep them in a ziplock bag will I have at least a month, as I have some deer and dogs to skin out and mount.

They had them in the stores around Cabelas in Mitchell starting at $250. and all they did was lay the backs of the pheasant on about a 16" wreath, and it only took four backs. I skinned four out just to try but got busy with some deer heads. Will post pics when I get one done.

Here are two other ideas for pheasant skins: Put an entire pheasant in a wreath or....wear it on your head!
(The hat is actually a 1950"s pillbox hat from an antique store. It originally had lime green chicken feathers.)
