Will it hurt anything to degrease skulls in 170f degree water?  My heater is not adjustable and only goes to 170.

Yep, not hard to wire in a thermostat.  Cheap too.  I'm running a 1500w water heater element, works well and stays right around 120.  About $12 invested into it, not counting an element I burned up from a low water level.
