Can you sell wild shot birds? Or did he give them to you.

Thanks for the compliments. I try to help as many taxidermists as I can with a bird. Here in California we shoot some late season beautiful ducks and if I can talk my friends out of the "pretty" ones that are not shot up, I like to do that and gift them to taxidermists. I will only gift one bird per person, (or a pair) because more guys will get one that way. Once in a while I get a note from a guy that says "I'm new and need practice, send me everything". That's not the plan. It's to help more guys and add a little to their collection but like you other guys, I don't want to fill out a guy's entire collection. If someone "needs" a bird, I like to help there where I can too.
Still, happy to help where I can. Right now, hunting is slow and we have nothing. My buddy just texted me and said he's been up at Tule Lake hunting and has only gotten a couple mallards and two juvinile snow geese. Not good. November is always slow here in California. I'm going to Iowa and hunt shotgun whitetails first season in a couple weeks so when I get back, we ought to have some weather and maybe a bird or two.
Anyway, thanks for the compliment and glad to help guys where I can.

That is very generous of you to do that, Bob. Those smiling mallards are definitely some cool birds. You ever kill any cinnamon teal out there? We get them every once in a while here in S. Texas. I just mounted one for my buddy that he killed last year. They are one cool duck for sure. Nice job, thanks for your generosity.

Like you, just trying to "do the right thing". South Texas, you guys do get a few cinnamon teal. Here that is a January bird, as they come back up from Mexico. You also get bluewings, don't you? My hunting buddy I lean on for divers said he's doing a "flock of teal" for competiton in March and asked me if I can get him 3 drake bluewings. We do not have them here, so that is something I'd like to beg for. obviously I'll pay postage to ship overnight, but do you get late season bluewings?.
Not offering a trade so don't misunderstand, but I'd sure like to get them if possible.
Give me a call or a phone # and we can talk.

Hey Bob, yeah the cinnys we have seen have been late January. We do have bluewings all season. When I take some nice ones I will hold on to them for you, no need to beg. After our split they should start looking a lot better. Jan. they will be prime. I will definitely keep you in mind.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Steve

Permit a fish head to butt in and add to the gratitude for Bob's generosity. As a reply to my request for a big bass on the "WANTED" forum Bob came forth with the gift of a real monster. I know of no one else in our profession who has been so uniquely generous in his manner of gifting specimens to his colleagues. His wish to gift one bird/fish per person so that more can receive what they need is especially considerate. Bob is a rootin' tootin' straight shooter and a super guy to jaw with on the phone. If you're still checking back on this thread Bob, on behalf of the fish heads you have gifted big bass to, THANK YOU!!!!

I, too, can't say enough good things about Bob. He, and a few others, are truely the bird taxidermists' friends.
