Silly question. Oo

I know of many methods for tanning critters. I just wanted to see what you guys would say. x)

I've started skinning and tanning the hides from my feeder mice, as sort of a joke, and sort of for practice. Lol.
I give the bodies to my lizards, since it is there food in the first place, I'm sure they don't miss the fur.

Well, if you were tanning a mouse hide, what method would you use? Tongue

  Lutan same as any other fur bearer.

I'm a newbie, so I thought doing a dry preserving via borax would work... but I'm not sure. :|

Lol i have never tanned anything, So of course i am gonna wonder. What do you do with a mouse you catch in a mouse trap lol.  I have wondered because i would like to get some feeder mice and try mounting a few, I don't know if they need to be tanned like a fox or somthing. Ask anyone who does not do taxidermy that question and they will not know the answer. So really you need the MRI for dissing people who do not know information. Thats what taxidermy.net is for, to help people.

I am just messing with ya.. It just seems like more and more people every day either ask the same question that has been asked 1,000, 000, 000 times already or a how to tan a mouse.. Kinda like how do you skin a grasshopper.. (you cant)..  Grin

Well I almost got one skinned all the way... they're so delicate I accidently ripped his little tail off... XD

As for tanning them.... Simple preserving methods seem to work well with the skin, rather than going through the process of tanning like I would have thought... Their skin is so thin...

The next oen I try I think I'll get the tail to work right, I assumed that you could take it off like a sock, but it seems that it's a bit more complex than that after I read some instructions on instructables! Tongue

Thanks for the comments, good or bad. xD

And as for skinning a grasshopper... As far as I know, with insects you just have to dry them, no skinning involved! Hah! XD
(I know you weren't asking, I'm just saying incase anyone is curious enough ... (:   )
