I'm curious if the majority of you guys paint right over glass eyes and then clean them up once you are done painting or if you put a coating or something over them to protect them?  Thanks!

I just clean them off with a little acetone on a Q-tip.  As anal as it may sound, use the Qtip brand as they are wound tighter and have it just damp with no excess acetone. Once you have a drip roll down the side of the head and ruin your hard work, you will appreciate why.

I don't worry about getting paint on my eyes as it's easy to come back with lacquer thinner on stencil brush and clean them up.

I tried both methods on my pike, the glazed eye cleaned up so fast and easy i'll do it more. I have used the acetone on a Q-tip on other fish, most of those only had one eye.

Amen!!! Don't try to save 50 cents with the cheap brands...It ain't worth it.

First...don't let paint pile on the eye....try to keep it at just overspray.

Second...clean the bulk of it with the Q-tip and thinner/acetone

Third...fine tune it with a small square tipped artisit brush slightly dampened with thinner/acetone.

Finally use a  clean, dry Q-tip to polish the eye prior to glossing.

I used to paint over them and clean later with no problems  on my last bass though I tried the Matt Thompson Eye sockets and loved it.   And I only do one eye  LOL

I paint and then clean.......I tried the eye protect and found that i could not get it all off and it left a white ring around the edge.I just found it easier to clean after painting/before glossing......I use the applicators from the make-up department...They are just a pointy and firm q-tip.The tip helps to get right around the edge of the eye and leave very little left to be cleaned with a fine brush.

wouldn't it be easier to tape over the eyes so there is no overspray?
