I have done around 25 whitetail deer this year and some elk and bears.  I just got my first mule deer bugs ate it just fine. Now it is in the degreaser.  Wondering if it takes about the same time as a whitetail.  Also it has turned very dark and red in the degreaser, 110 degree water and dawn.  Any thoughts?

Probably wont take very long, similiar to a whitetail.  The coloring may be from the antlers rubbing off in the water.

Just got done whitening my first mule deer. I degreased for 11 or 12 days it looked ok to me, but after whitening there is a dark spot between the eyes. Might need to go back into the degrease not sure if it is grease though. If it is grease then I guess 12 days isn't long enough for this mule deer. Does that help? lol

I would be curious to know if anyone else has seen this. I too got a mule deer in this year that when the beetles were done, this reddish tint covered the entire top of the skull prior to the placing in the degreaser. After 3 weeks of degreasing and let dry for one week, it still has the same dark tint. Now I placed the skull in straight ammonia. I will admit that it lightened in areas after the first week of degreasing but the color is still there. I have pictures if anyone wants to see or has any thoughts on this.
