Does everyone charge an EXTRA (SEPERATE) fee for caping? I have not been but was told I should be.  Just wondering how many of you do  and if it is a seperate bill and not figured in to the price of the mount. I guess I mean, do you tell your customer that there is a  (lets say $30.00) charge for caping? Thanks Rick

Are you referring to skinning the entire deer or just the head?  Caping fee for the head should be included in the mount price.  If your skinning the entire deer, then yes you should charge more.  $30 is reasonable.

im new at the whole taxidermy shop thing but in my opinion i would rather cape it out myself so there are not as many holes and i kno whr i need it cut.. ive had to many deer heads come in with big holes and cut half way up the neck...  so no i dont charge for caping them out

If we get the mount we don't charge a caping fee. We will even deliver the meat to the butcher in town that way they don't have to come back after it is skinned. Its all about customer service and have got many repeat customers because of this.

I gotta spend 10 minutes listening to the BS about the hunt, I might as well cape a deer while Im doing it. Clients appreciate it & its done right. All part of the service. Believe me they are paying for it they just dont know it.

I strongly agree. I never charge an additional fee for it. More often then not, I just shoot the crap with them while
I skin it as Bill stated. I make sure to explain to them while showing them the correct way to cape it out at least that way they have the knowledge to do it themselves next time and it is less likely to be all cut to crap.JMHO.

Are you takling about one customer that brings in the whole deer, or all of your customers doing it? I think you will find, that a whole deer coming in, doesn't happen very often, I have only had one so far.

I would prefer to have the head left in and cape it myself than get it caped out and cut all to hell by an inexperienced hunter in the field. Charging for caping, to me, would inspire hunters to try and do it themselves,... no thanks!

I have alot of clients who bring the whole deer and I skin it for a fee. I put in an electric hoist in the new building and they just back in and I hoist it up, skin it, and drop the deer back down in their truck with plastic and they take it to where ever they use to process it.
