C. Krueger Swimming Otters

I have mounted two otters using the same forms and now I need to know what size rod I should use? I plan on doing close to the same display a client found a picture and wanted it. Anyone know what I should use to keep the otters in place?

Don't know if it's too late because the otters are mounted, but I would use square tube stock (http://rmi-online.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=7865). Make an "X" cut where you want them to attach, cut out some foam, and epoxy the tubes in place. Tuck the skin when finished. Good luck.

this is what I would do . I would use a 3/8 rod , solid not threaded. this should be done before you mount them. Anchor the rod in the bottom otter manikin, drill a hole in the top otter manikin, put bondo in the hole, let it dry ,then drill it out to the same size of the rod , so it does not spin.

Thanks for your help. We welded some rods up last night and covered them in some green rubber tonight we plan on mounting the otters to the rods. I will post a picture of them when they are finished.

Hi Kim,
 Amy e-mailed us a while back with the same question. This is exactly how Chris did the procedure prior to mounting. This is the response to Amy:

Hi Amy,
  I relayed your message to Chris and here is his response. He used a 3/8th"
threaded rod, ran it through the driftwood,secured and bolted it, covered the
nut with sculpt all and painted to blend in with the wood. The rod from the
driftwood went through the bottom otter and halfway through the top otter. He
bent the rod to match the otters, channeled out the foam and bondoed the rod
into the otters for stability.
