Grass effect?

I mounted a standing pheasant and wanted dead grass surrounding him. So, I went to Micheals Crafts and bought some brown dead craft grass and glued each piece on the base. Works, looks good, but this was very tedious and time consuming.

Any better ways?

I harvest native grasses in the fall or ealry winter after they have field dried by pulling the roots out of the ground, then hang upside down in the attic of my shop in small bundles. They can also be bugg proofed and sealed with Krylon . These full plants are then pierced with a wire through the root section into the largest stem and up the stem as far as I can push it and I leave a tag end of several inches.Then this wire serves as the anchor and hot gluing point of the bunch of grass.Or if the root section is large enough I just spread it out and pour some foam around it.  If one bunch gets to looking bad down the road, I just pull that buch and insert a fresh one. I have sevearl customer mounts out that are 4 years old and the grass still looks fine.A ittle less work than individual stems and the grass is only costing me a little gas and a field trip to look at habitat reference.  paul

I did the same thing when I did my yote habitat,but it never looked full at the base. So I went outside dug up some clumps of grass roots and all. Hung them upside down sprayed with krylon clear and plants ed in the base. Hope this helps.
