I am looking for a finished black base like this, except I need an oval shape rather than this kidney shape, and around the size for a small mammal (Mink). This is the kidney shaped one I found in WASCO. Have tried all other supplier books that I have and no luck. If anyone could direct me to a source for one of these I'd be really grateful, or maybe even some info as to where I could have it custom made.

Nina,

You might try Panels by Paith in North Carolina...
"Your complete headquarters for a complete line of plaques, bases, and accessories.
Address: 2728 Allensville Road, Roxboro, NC 27573
Sales: (800) 67-PAITH -- Office: (910) 599-3437".
You can usually tell them what you want and then specify that they paint the oak base (cheaper than walnut) with a black gloss finish.

Also, I think Nikki Chadwick at Walnut Creek Hardwoods could help out.  http://www.walnutcreekhardwood.com/She has made some special stuff for me in the past.

Check out all the suppliers right here on Taxi.net under suppliers, bases, domes, etc...You could call those listed and see if anyone has something like that in stock.  Here is one example listing:
Tired of manufactured bases with the same repetitive design and no individuality? Then order an original affordable hardwood creation made by Tim Bailey. Each base and panel are made upon ordering, and changes can be made to the design or type of wood or stain to suit your needs.
Address: Aliquippa, PA
Sales: (724) 375-7797
Web site: www.timbaileywoodwork.com  --  E-mail: TJBailey01@yahoo.com

One final tip....I paint many of my own bases specific to the piece.  The particular finish you show in the pic can be had very easily with METALIC grey/blk paint found at Home Depot.

Hope this helps. Smiley
