I have taken Dan dineharts class on deer mounting.  It was a good expererience of what not to do but it was a beginner experience.  If I had to do it again I would get a few capes that are of no importance and get Rick carters whitetail mounting a to z dvd and you would be a lot further ahead.  You can work at your pace also.

Maybe get ahold of the state assc. They may be able to help you find someone qualified to do a workshop for you.

I would spend a grand and come study with Bill Yox!  Won't get any better than that.

You could take a look at Wegners taxidermy school. He puts on a real good beginners Deer course. It is Ron Wegner.

I am going to go out on a limb here and I'm sure I'm going to get slammed for it but tough cookies!!! RINEHART is far from the best taxidermy scool in WI. It's o.k. for learning the basics and if you want to learn some shortcuts in tanning. Mostly how to make $$$$ doing cheap junk.SHOP AROUND find someone reputable and spend your money wisely. If possible do one on one with a taxidermist with alot of years under his/'her belt. Feel free to call me. (715) 274-2260                   phil

I am trying to find someone fairly close.  If there is not a reputable teacher in Wisconsin I will travel however that would make it much more expensive and not as easy to fit into my schedule.  Looking at the info on Bill Yox he seems like a great choice.  However, I have only done one head so far which many of you just critiqued.  Would I be better off taking a class from someone else first and maybe Bills class after I have a little more experience.

Clint, this is my belief about training. Right now you are the perfect student. Your ambition is high. You proved that by mounting your own first head. The longer you do something you develop habits and traits. Some may be good, but others not so good. It's harder to break bad habits later than it is to correctly develop them from the beginning. I mounted my first head under the guidance of Joe Meder. Smartest taxidermy decision I ever made. Now, 15 years later I have the opportunity to study with Bill Yox. This is a special effort that Bill is putting forth for a much discounted price. Under normal circumstances Bill's class would run you 500.00 a day, plus your travel to New York, meals and motel. With Bill coming to Illinois, you get 3 days for 1000.00, plus you will be working side by side with several others that have been in the field for a number of years. The good thing about that is that others will be asking questions that you yourself may not think to ask yet. You will see not only Bill's techniques but also those from the rest of us in attendance. You will learn the RIGHT way from the beginning of your career, not later when you have developed bad habits. Think it over and feel free to pm me with any questions you may have. Tim

I recommend Redwolf on here, although he lives in Mass, he will teach you for $100/day and would be a better option than rhinehart. lol Grin

Keep it up Matt and I'll stick a size 11 boot up your ass for free.
