breaking down a carcass
«
on:
February 03, 2010, 08:06:27 PM »
I've got a fox carcass that I need all the bones from (not to articulate but for something else). Previously my bone cleaning method has been to throw the carcass in the woods and come back later, but I need these quicker. Is there any good strategy to stripping out the bones or should I just go crazy with a bunch of knives?

How quick?? Know anyone with beetles?? The right sized beetle colony could do it in a few days.

no beetles. I'm going to simmer the bones, but I was more wondering about gutting/getting meat off of them first

How quick? Throw it in a bucket of water with an aquarium heater and it'll be clean in a few weeks...

One advantage to having buckets full of rotting skulls laying around is that decorating for Halloween is easy...

hahaha... I'll have to try that with the next one!
I've been snowed in so I went crazy with a boning knife... though next time I'm definitely going to gut it first
