Yesterday I was brought the largest Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake that I have personally ever seen (6 foot 4) to me to be flat mounted  on a board.  Well it had been given to him by the person that killed it who also decided to skin it (even though I specifically told them to let me skin it - they apparently wanted the meat).  Anyway there are many 1/2 holes and some 1 inch holes in the skin due from the careless skinning.  I told the guy that did not think that I could repair it to make it look decent.  He told me to try and if I couldn't then so be it.  I do want to try because of the rarity of the specimens size - not many that big left even here in south Georgia.  Any suggestions on the best way to repair the holes?  Sewing doesn't seem a satisfactory option.

Thanks in advance.

I would recommend using Super Glue Gel (or similar adhesive) once the skin is attached to the board. Just align the scales and glue. Better than sewing as you mentioned. If done correctly, then you shouldn't be able to see where the holes were, especially if it was from skinning where there isn't any "missing" skin - compared to being shot and having skin missing.

Rattlerguy, You can also use a used dryer sheet as if you are repairing a tear or cut on a deer ear. I have used that methead and it works great.
