If you think education is expensive, try ignorance

« on: March 14, 2010, 08:18:54 AM »

I'm doing my very first snake, a 6 foot python, with a Van Dyke's kit. The instructions gave 6 hours to overnight as the amount of time to leave the hide in the pickle. I pickled much longer than that, closer to 2 days. Now I've applied 4 coats of their Reptile Tan, and it's drying. What's bothering me is the hide smells bad. How much odor, if any, is normal as a hide tans?

No one's responded to this topic, but that's aok. I've answered my own question. The odor I thought was from the snake skin was coming from a beetle box in the same room!! The hide itself smells just finel
