I have a taxidermist buddy up here in North Idaho and I was looking at a few of his new mounts he completed yesterday. I noticed he had a 6x7 bull elk mount that was laying on the floor of his shop. He bought it for about 900 because he wanted the base for a mule deer he shot. He was hoping to sell the mount for around 600?? I asked him why he hasnt sold it yet and he said it would cost to much to ship. Can anyone tell me what price range he would be looking at to send something that big? and what carrier you used??? He doesnt want to keep the bull becuase he didnt mount it himself and he also has plenty of his own kills bigger, so I think he would be able to sell it on ebay or craigslist for that price most deffinetly, but shipping may be a probablem.

Thanks for the info.... It sounds better to try and get someone to buy it within driving distance.

I shipped a deer head from Mississippi to Nebraska before Christmas and it cost $160...plus time and materials in building the crate.  An elk would be an economical disaster to ship.

I ship elk mounts almost weekly.  It is  a Class 300 truck frieght. With detachable antlers the crates are 4'X4'X5' and wiegh in at 150lbs. I use 1X3's and side with 1/4" waver board. Cost generally is around 300. plus or minus depending on delivery location across country.
