If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Okay, there was a post a while back where the poster was looking how to preserve Palmettos.

I don't know what came of their project, but I suggested ways to make artificial plants.  Well, I did find silk versions ... I think!

This page is from an Al Holmes Supply catalog.

Now, I realize that Al has passed away, but I do not know if the business has been folded upon his death.  Their website hasn't been up for a long time now, but here is the phone number ... 1-334-567-7966 ... if anyone is interested.  I haven't had time or the inclination to call ... I really need to, but it will be a delicate situation. Sad  I'll update this once I call and find out what's what. Wink

Update:

I just got off the phone with Evelyn Holmes and the supply business is still in operation!  So for all your habitat needs, this is a very good source for some hard to find habitat materials.  I've gotten so many "odd-ball" and common habitat materials from them over the years and wholeheartedly recommend patronizing this supplier! Wink  In fact their latest catalog and supplement on its way to me.

Got the latest catalog and flier from Al Homes Supply, and it is better than ever!  This catalog contains color photos of the products they carry, including their plant materials.  They are also carrying some neat products for habitats!
Here is the new page where you can find the large Palmettos:

Evelyn still has some of the best hard to find habitat silks anywhere!

While not a Palmetto, this is a wonderful looking palm frond!

And you should try some of these dried habitat products.  These are particularly great for African scenes ... for either full mounts or floor pedestals!
Bonsai Wood!

Sage Brush ... great for dry, arid regions, and if you cut off small groupings, they can be used to make the most realistic model railroad trees ever!

Manzanita Wood Branch ... always useful!

Tumbleweed ... for those American Prairie Scenes!

And as an added bonus for all those getting into, or wanting to bump up their current African habitat ...

... yet another source for artificial Thorn Branches!

I urge ALL Taxidermists looking to create top notch habitats to give this company a try if you haven't already.  I've only scratched the surface here.  They are very friendly and accommodating, and carry damn near everything you will need to create convincing and artistic habitats!
