Hey,
No I have never attended anything like that. But this coming year I look to start some competition. Right now I am way to busy. Things like that will be in the Workz!

Again , Nice work Gatorjaw.  Maybe I will run into you someday in Ridgway. I'm not a carver ,just a fan..Keep in mind , it's not a competition, no prizes or awards ,but a  gathering of carvers to share ideas ,tips ,and for fellowship..At the end of the week all the artists donate a piece for an auction..All proceeds from that auction go to Make-a Wish..All Carvers are responsible for their own travel expenses..Even so , It keeps getting bigger every year and carvers come from all corners of the world..Pretty cool event.

Hey Extreme Angler, that sounds like a great time. I will get some info on it. I donate a lot of stuff already and the Make A Wish Foundation is surely a worthy cause! If I get up there I will let you know.

Thanks very much. The final pictures should be posted this week. Be sure to check back. This particular carving has taken a while for I have only been able to work on it a couple of days a week, an hour or so in each setting. It sets in my sisters yard. It's a gift to her and my brother in-law. Both are religious and have done a great deal to help others and bring them to Christ. This is just my way of giving to those who have given much!

The Ridgway rendezvous can be more like an NTA convention/Yoxathon type event. They have carvers from up to 10 countries at times - Germany, Japan, Norway, Sweden, England, etc. and is essentially a week long with workshops on different techniques. The people who run it have a relationship with Jack Buehler who runs a lumber company and was at one time the largest private landowner in PA. He has his folks save interesting pieces of lumber specifically for the event in February - interesting in that they are gnarled or weird growth patterns and wouldn't make good lumber anyhow. The various carvers set up in a large outside parking lot that used to be part of a brake manufacturing company that my brother in law worked in. They have a large indoor area where the auction is held on Saturday. It is a nice small town that at one time was a major hub for lumber barons and 100 years ago had opera houses and was a much more important town in the area. The town is actually smaller than 1900, but quite quaint.

It sounds like a great time and I am looking forward to it. I just have to get more info on it and see what I have to do to get registered. And then hope I can break free at that time of year. Thanks for the background on the rendezvous! I will let you know what I find out.

Absolutely Amazing, I can't even draw a stick person, would probably cut my leg off with a chain saw.
