Hi all,

I am macerating a nine-banded armadillo skull and I was wondering if anyone else had done the same and if so, how big of a pain-in-the-a** is it to put the teeth back in?  Since their teeth are pretty much all the same size and shape I figured it would be a challenge.  Think I should macerate the top and bottom jaws separately just for that purpose?  Maybe take the teeth out by hand before they all fall out and I have to fish them out of the maceration junk?

Thanks!

When the teeth start getting loose just yank them out and put them in order on something -- Wolfwoman uses meat trays and they work quite well for her.

I removed all the teeth on the cat skull and took a photo of the order they sit in the jaw - http://nukawin.deviantart.com/art/Cats-Teeth-175026621 - to help me put the teeth in the right places. I  degreased and whitened them, while keeping the top teeth seperate from the bottom teeth.

I found the teeth harder to pull, than replacing.

Great idea, I think I will go ahead and try to take them out as soon as they become loose!

I've done armadillo before.  The teeth only look the same, each one is sized slightly different and as with other skulls only one tooth will really fit in its proper socket.  Keep them sorted if you choose, but I haven't found it difficult to figure out which one goes where.

That's good to know!  I figured they would all be pretty much identical and I'd be pulling my hair out trying to put them back in the right hole!
