As far as the "composition" is concerned, sometimes a blue bird is just a blue bird, LOL! I wanted to paint a blue jay, so I did.

Beautiful work! As to the composition, I used to laugh inside when my art instructors would talk about my art, and how I placed everything for such great 'movement' and 'flow', drawing the eye around the pic. Little did they know, I NEVER set it up, at least intentionally, that way. I just placed items where I thought they looked best. If I were doing the Blue Jay, I'd have placed it the same place you did. The painting is a 'study' of a Blue Jay, not a composition containing a Blue Jay. (I understand where they are coming from, though.) I don't see anything wrong with putting the focal point in the center. Heck, it's your painting. Put him hanging upside-down if ya want! LOL!
We, as artists, do what feels right to us. Maybe that's why we tend to be unique individuals.
