I have been using Lutan F to tan with an oxalic pickle.
Tanned this bear small one  for 18 hours.
Should I still see blue in the hide?
Seems to me this hide will go white when it dries ?
It was salted  pickled shaved degreased pickle shaved and pickled again then tanned.

Looks ok to me, the blue will be because it`s closely shaved, yes? I`m no expert though so am sure others will come on soon to let you know for sure. Smiley

Looks like a fall bear with deep rooted guard hairs, so like Thistle said, it's dark because you are shaved close (you can't help it). It might lighten a little when it dries, but when you stake it is when it really lightens up.

Your process for degreasing is correct ,after you oil the skin and it starts to dry and you start breaking the hide, the blue will whiten or lighten up, by the pic. looks standard to me.

Thanks guys . Yes it will be oiled. Didn't want to oil if it had to go back in the tanning. Not sure how I will break the hide as the head will be installed next week and will be nailed out on board This hide is very thin so should remain soft but not blanket soft.

If you're going to rug it, dry it and break it first, then soak your head and paws, then wet the rest just enough to shape it, skin won't be as boardy then.
