2011 WTA SEMINAR DESCRIPTIONS

Thursday, February 24
 
2:00pm – 6:00pm
Live Mounting Mammal Competition, Coyote or Smaller
Day 1: This years Live Mounting Competition will follow the same criteria as last years Live Bird Mounting Competition. You will have four (4) hours on Thursday & nine (9) hours on Friday to complete this mount. You can use any or all of this time to complete your mount. This will be a great learning tool for anyone who mounts or is interested in mounting any life-size mammal. This competition is limited to the first six (6) people to enter. Round Table Discussion
While all the mounts are being brought in at the competition area, feel free to meet up & bring all your questions, thoughts or concerns to this seminar & talk to other taxidermists who may have the answer you’ve been looking for.

Friday February 25

Live Mounting Mammal Competition, Coyote or Smaller
Day 2: Continued from the Thursday, February 24th, either put the finishing touches on your mount from Day 1 or decide to complete it all in this final day. Everyone that is not competing in this is encouraged to come in & out or stay for the whole day & see what kind of new tips you can gain.

Carving A Competition Fish Body, Tim Perkins
In This Seminar, Tim will be showing how he goes about carving a competition fish body. You will see from start to finish how you can go from a block of foam to a finished body that will fit “just perfect.” In this seminar you will gain a lot of knowledge about the anatomy of a fish & how the body is to be carved to be anatomically correct. Be sure not to miss this one.

“Gerome’s Magical Garden”, Edna Perkins

Gerome’s Magical Garden™ is a beautifully illustrated book which tells of a delightful garden adventure of Gerome the Gnome & his friends. The book will be read by author, Edna Perkins, & a planting activity will also be done. We will be playing with dirt & each child will receive some vegetable plants to start their own garden. Come & join us for some good & dirty fun!

Casting Reference, Mike Yeska
After finishing up his Four Part Hands-on Deer Seminar, Yeska just didn’t know what he would do at this years show with all his extra time so he decided that he would just continue giving seminars! For these two hours, Mike will be showing how to go about casting your own reference -- Yeska style! We all have heard it from the judges, “look at your reference.” Now this is the perfect opportunity to learn how to make your own.

Rock Mold Making, Jim Kimball & Brenda Duvall
After the great success at the 2010 Rendezvous & many questions from the seminar attendees, Jim & Brenda are now going to show us all how they make the molds for their artificial rocks from start to finish. You will see how to cast a real rock & then turn around & make an exact replica of that same rock. This seminar is going to be somewhat hands on so be sure to attend & participate in the steps to creating your very own rocks.


Saturday February 26

Live Mounting Competition Judging (Mammal, Fox or Smaller)
Setting Up Pedestals & Finishing Backs, Bill Neuman
In this seminar, our new mammal judge, Bill Neuman, will be examining the mounts entered in the Live Mounting Mammal Competition (from 2/24 & 2/25 seminars) & discussing the quality of each mount entered. After completing the judging, Bill will show us how to make additional money in creating both habitat & leather back pedestals. In this seminar, Bill will cover the proper hardware needed to support such pedestals & discuss multiple stacking of pedestals. As well as, reviewing problem areas & problem solving. This seminar is a must for anyone who has ever struggled with pedestal backs, or seen broken pedestals because of improper attachment points.

Mounting A Whitetail Deer, Tommy Hall
This year our new Deer Judge, Tommy Hall, will be showing us his tips & techniques to mount a deer head. Be sure to be there to find out another judges perspective on the shapes & anatomy of a whitetail deer.

Fish Finish Work , Jeff Mourning
After showing us last year how to carve the body & paint the eyes of a fish, this year Jeff is going to jump past the mounting stage & show how to attach an artificial head & fins, & then go ahead & set some eyes. This seminar will be very informative so be sure not to miss a minute!

3:00 pm – 5:00pm
Avian Challenge Judging and Mounting a Flying Duck, Troy Rose
In this seminar, our new bird judge, Troy Rose, will be examining the mounts entered in the Avian Challenge (crow mount) & discussing the quality of each mount entered. He will also be demonstrating the dynamics of a flying mallard mount.  This should be a great seminar to attend & will provide useful information.
