 Sorry for the poor photos, I had to shoot these indoors, as it has been snowing here for the past two days and the natural lighting is terrible. I have been doing a pencil drawing on a 11 x 14 white scratchboard. This was actually an experiment, this white board has virtually no tooth to it and of course I could not get the detail that I wanted without scratching on the pencil. The elk is not finished, but close. At this time I am not sure if I will do a background or not. Your comments are always welcome.

Wow.  Looks like Paul Calle grass and hair.  Can you share your technique for that?  I'm trying to learn by trial and error, but that type of detail is my goal.

Shane, my graphite art is actually graphite scratchboard art. All of the grass and hair is a combination of pencil and scratching, several layers, that is how I achieve depth. I blend with a tortillon or a soft pastel applicator between each layer of scratching, then the on the final, I scratch in the high lights that I want. When you scratch on the claybord, make sure that you ony scratch the graphite and on deep into the clay, at least not until your last layer. Again, I use only 3B and 8B pencils, mainly to get the darks that I desire. BTW there is no graphite powder used on this board. If you look at the thread "Boy in Tibet" I used graphite powder to do a good portion of this piece. Good luck to you.
