Stained bear skull
«
on:
November 26, 2010, 02:27:38 PM »
Several months back I started a bear skull and the heater died so I just left it out back to macerate on its own. Then a few weeks after that I dumped out 1/2 the water and refilled it up/ Well some time between then and now the cover came off and a pile of leave fell into the bucket. Bear skull is now stained almost dark brown from the tannins in the leaves. Whats the chance it will whiten up after its degreased?
Batteries are toast or I would have posted a pic.

Leaves dont color as much as they stain. It'll lighten up but I doubt it'll be 100%.

Leaf tannins tend to stay in there. I've never gotten one white again, and I've never had one that colored before, so I'm doubting it will ever be anything other than orange. With that said, I think it looks pretty cool.

Well the iron out threads were certainly intresting . If it was my skull I would whiten it as much as possible and if I ended up not liking it I would get it hydro -dipped.
