As the title says  I prepped the  wt deer cape then fleshed on the beam.  salted  for 24 changed out the salt 24 more hrs. washed then into the oxalic acid pickle  Not even 48 hrs later the pickle stinks bad  Cape has brown spots on it   and hair is falling out not slipage but hair strains are falling out all over  I try to be gentle with it and not pull on the hair. I removed and shaved all over and stink stayed in the shop where the  shaving ended up.  Few hours later pickle is starting to stink again.   I have the pickle at around 80-90 deg. This is the second time in last 2 times that it stinks.  Thought the last time the PH was a little to high. Made it up to 3 over night  until I noticed the smell . This one I have been watching the ph  its dark red at ph 1 but still stinks.
 Any ideas?Huh

Before these 2 I did a bear and all was well

It sounds to me like you have a bad cape from the start, you do not have to keep your pickle that warm, room temp for the pickle is fine, especially if you have a bad cape in it, you are magnifying the smell of a bad cape having the temp up there, was there blood on the capes or in your pickle? is it a fresh pickle? The pickle with skins in it should have a sweet smell ,with my experience the pickle should never have a bad smell unless you have a bad skin or blood in it, do you know the history of the skins(field care)?

Was told the history on both capes  and seemed ok .   As soon as i turned off heater the smells was  not as bad.  Will see tomorrow how the tanning goes.
It was a fresh pickle with no blood as it was washed.
