I make my pickles in a 30 gal trash can but i am thinkin about goin to smaller buckets. I wash my hides befor puttin them in to keep the pickle somewhat cleaner. So is it batter to have a big trash can or is a 5 gal bucket batter.  I know with bigger hides the biger can will have to be used.

With smaller containers you always run the risk of a fold that prevents the pickle from doing its job. The best bet is plastic totes there rectangular shape allows you to lay out hides flat with no risks of folds happening.
