I have mounted a few cats now and each time I do I look for a round full pupil eye but only seem to find slit pupils. Is there a dealer out there somewhere that has round pupils eye . I think these are more natural  then the slit pupil.

i have noticed on allot of the reference pictures that everyone says to look at , they have round pupils 75 % of the time, maybe it is just the shock factor of them being so close to a human, i don't know. most of the pics i have saw is from trappers tho

Bobcat have slit pupils when they are not dilated. When the pupils become dilated due to low light, or because they are in 'attack mode' they are more rounded. The same is true of house cats and all other small felid species.

Here's a shot of a cat that was taken in low light: http://www.flickr.com/photos/littlelioness09/2638592428/

If you notice, the pupils look round at first, but if you pay close attention, they're actually just elongated slits.

Here's a shot taken in better light: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ucumari/345645122/

We can see in the second shot that the cat's pupils have more of a classic slit look to them.

WASCO has a set that is between a slit and a round pupil. I use this one for all my bobcats.

As a trapper and taxi all the cat eyes I see are full round pupils like an owl but need better quality. See the Van Dkyes not carry a half round pupil.

I mounted one with large, round pupils, but I can't remember where I got them.  I did have a lot of customers see the mount and commend on the eyes before it was picked up.  They liked them open.   It made for a more unusual mount than they were used to seeing and it didn't take any extra work.

They may have been the v18bcr's from Vandykes, but I thought the ones I used had more yellow/green in them.  Here are the ones from Vandykes: http://www.vandykestaxidermy.com/Round-Pupil-C2113.aspx.  The cat I used them on had his ears back and was swiping with his paw so they made him look especially pissed off.  I don't think I'd used them for a relaxed, calm kitty, but that's just me.

Vandykes and Tohickon both have round pupil eyes. I personally don't like the round pupils. I have trouble finding any reference showing round pupils the size of the pupils available in these eyes. If I want a dilated bobcat eye I prefer the Tohickon IQ Large Pupil bobcat eyes available through WASCO. I use these a lot in my mounts. Here is a reference picture of a cat w/ similar pupils:

...and here is a cat I mounted w/ the eyes available through WASCO:

...and a close up of the eyes:

Those look nice. I'll have to give them a try.  I liked the Vandyke eyes for the cat I did because it looked very angry and the eyes seemed to match.  It's nice seeing a calm cat with larger pupils.  Those definitely look more natural than the Vandyke's.
