Fussy beetles
«
on:

I have 3 big beetle colonys , they do a great job with fresh skulls , the problem is they stop eating the flesh arround the eyes and on the back of the skulls , it's like they go on strike until there is fresh meat offered , I have rehidrated the skulls and the nibble a little but never finish , amonia didn't help much , this leaves alot of picking and scraping !!! Any other tips would be a big help !!! Thanks

Put them in your degreaser - pull the softened flesh off after a few water changes.

How much flesh do you remove when you prep? Perhaps you should refine your prep process a bit. Focus on those areas more if it happens often. Maybe you're leaving too much on in those areas, it's drying out and being over looked by the beetles.

Just impale a few of them on a toothpic with a tiny sign that says "you could be next". That should get them busy again!

You have either 1 or 2 problems. Not enough female beetles or to many. If there are to many females you need to kill about 1/2 of them. They are the ones being so picky. If there are not enough you need to bring more in. The more males doing the work with a few females supervising the more work that will get done.
Ohhh yeah and don't forget to put a can of ber in there every once in a while.
