cast waterfowl feet

Good question!  Now that I have wasted more RTV I should have used masters blend.  I was trying the method they used in the video but I had 2 things go wrong.  Air bubbles under the feet when I set them in moisture.  The feet start thawing instanly and I Think some of the water is coming out of the insulin needle holes.  Guessing here.  I also had some of the webing fold up where it was sitting on the pin.  The feet wanted to float and I had to keep pushing them down.  Until next time!!  Maybe someone else will learn from my mistakes and get it to work.  I am going to have to wait till our show too see it done in person!!

i have been casting all my comp birds feet for years.what i do is shoot them up with water put in my freezer then i paint on the first layer with a very thin coat with rtv with the fast set catalyst with a brush i never realy have problems with pin hole or bubbles,then finish the rest of mold the using the the fast set .i know i can mold a set of duck feet and pour the mold and demold less then an hour it is pretty easy when they come out they are just as good or if not better then a freeze dried foot ,then use a heat gun and you can manipulate them on what your putting them on.i hope that helps

Just started reading posts about casting feet. Is this fast set method done in a one piece mold? Also, is the mold able to be reused since it sounds like the webbing is weak.   Lastly, are you casting them with a wire cured into the foot?  I want to give it a shot this weekend so I'm hoping to iron out some of the issues in advance. Thanks for any clarification you can offer.  Mike
