Northern Whitetail deer. Side view of inner nostril color and nose pad texture.
Shoot me an email if you want the high definition version of this photo. At 100% you can see amazing detail. File too large to post here.

The pink you see displayed marks the back side of the contour down into the gland pocket.
Notice too that you can see the cartilage edge under the wing of the nostril. Look where the nose pad wraps around that in turn. Ain't that a bite? Just when you think you have all these "rules" of where everything goes figured out, some joker comes along with live deer photos to screw with your head.

Here's a shot of the same deer nose as I have pictured above, but taken at a different time. Probably about a year's difference in time.
Check out the nodules.

I keep tellin' everyone, there's no such thing as too much reference!
Here's a shot showing a pink nostril interior.
Andy, you had perfect timing when you posted that first photo in this section. I had been going through my files looking for a shot that showed the leading edge of attachment for the zygomaticus major. Side views, back views, even in skinned out deer head photos, mine were just short of showing what I needed. That angle, and slightly open mouth shows it REAL good! If I'm lucky, I'll be able to send you a photo in the next few days of what I did with the "information". Thanks again!
