What material do you suggest works best? I see the bondo or foam is suggested. This is my first attempt. Just wondering what may be easier to prep and paint, attach, durability, etc. Thinking with the foam wouldn't as good? you have to ruff the surface to get paint to stick well thus destroying detail??? I am looking at making rocks approx. 3"x3" 4"x6". And with suggestion, please suggest what paint may work best with material suggested.

Thanks Clay. That is what I was going by. I have the first layer of silicone on 4-5 rocks. You were pretty thorough on the mold itself. I am questioning what to use once I have the silicone mold. Thanks!

Bondo works, any resin that will color also will work. i thin down the paints and do a wash ,waterbased or lacquer work.

How about just making rocks the Micheal P way? It's cheap and very easy to do.
