Is it illegal to sell clusters of real oyster shell? I find them dried out and sun bleached on land but someone mentioned that it might be illegal to sell them. Just curious. For the record,I have never sold any.I made a few sea scape crafts for my own house and that's it.

Not that some of the northeastern states don't have some idiot laws, but why would dead oyster shells be illegal.  In Maryland they're used to cover driveways and the last time I checked, chicken farmers feed crushed oyster shells to chickens for egg production.

A warden in Texas told me that I could pick up the clusters for my own use as long as I didn't sell them .He didn't elaborate.  I thought maybe there was a native species law that regulated it or a "where did they come from" kind of law. Who knows anymore.  Was also told you can't sell mounted crabs or mounted hermit crabs. I will call Texas TPW on  Monday

In Washington you are supposed to return the shells to the water. I don't know what happens if you don't because it's obvious that they can also be sold in the shell, but I wouldn't put it past this state to have some rule against selling just the shells.

Why is it illegal to be in possession of a raptor feather? Because they don't know where you got it from. It is illegal in IN to have a native mussel shell. Well-meaning but ill-thought out rules.

The PC crowd running amuck...perfect examples. Go to Hooter's (or any similar restaurant) and buy steamed oysters. They throw the shells in the trash. I can hear Barney Fife yelling now!

If you were talking to a warden, you may have been at a state or federal beach. They have a whole different set of rules. Does anyone know if the Fish & Game would cover this by state?
