I use "Rite in the Rain" waterproof paper.  punch holes in it and use bread ties to secure to antler.  they aren't submerged, but they stay moist in the degreaser and don't fade or tear.  soemtimes they get submerged and still OK.

So the tags I have used for years all of a sudden are breaking.    I come back to my degreasers and they will just be floating on top.   Weird I have never had one break in the past, now I had 4 out of 5 break in the last batch.  I called Dicky Manufacturing, they sent me new ones, same thing, so I called them again they are sending me samples of their other stronger tags.  What a great company, they really do take care of their customers.

I use Tyvec tags and zips ties. Have not have any trouble. Sometimes when I pull them out of the peroxide the writing it faded, but not so faded you can't read it.

General I did, they said it must be a bad mix of plastic.  I have to try something new though, I have about 70 heads in the shop right now at various stages of degreasing and finishing and at least that many still in the freezers and I cant be loosing tags on them.

Well I'm CHEAP and make my own.
I use "Flexible Cutting Mats" from Walmart. They are in a package of 3, are 12in X 15in and sell for about $4.00. They are some type of plastic material. I then cut into strips about an inch wide with a paper trimmer/cutter. Then I cut to the length I want, usually about 1 1/2 in long. Take a paper punch and punch a hole in each tag. I have a set of 1/4 inch number stamps and stamp the tag with the number from my log sheet. Zip tie it to the antlers, NO PROBLEMS in the bugs or in degrease tanks. I enter the same number on my Michigan DNR tag as well.
Seems like a lot but it really don't take that much time and has worked well for me.

You can buy these from Jonas Brothers and Dixieland Taxidermy Supply.  I use them on antlers and skulls.  Hold them in place with a zip-tie through the hole in them.  If you are beetle feeding skulls, rub some Vick's Vap-O-Rub on it so that the beetles won't eat the number off it.

They are about $20.00 per hundred.

Don't use these!  I bought a couple of hundred of these at Graingers and used them to tag my antlers but in the South Texas heat in my barn they became brittle and fell off.  I had a hell of time matching the antler bases to my mounts!

Still breaking seals from Dickey, they sent me some of their thicker truck seals but they still have a weak point on them that looks like it could break.  I am trying a pack of these:

I have just used colored zip ties. Color sequence gets assigned to a name. Though I have never done huge lots at a time. Red, blue, green, yellow, red +blue, red + green, red + red .. etc.

I am experimenting with some weather proof Avery shipping labels.  I want something I write information on like when it started degreasing and such.  I cut some strips to test out how they hold up in the degreasing tank and so far its pretty good.  Only been a few hours, but its 125-130 degree water and the labels don't show any signs yet.  Will leave them in there for days to see what happens.  For skulls without antlers, I would just use zipties with these on them.

The water is a standard Dawn with a bit of ammonia.  The two samples are with different markers to see what happens.
