Fishing in Chernoble

« on: May 18, 2011, 01:12:27 AM »

In 1991 I made this jacket, the indian way, with no sewing.  I had a lot of tanned deer hides and I took a shirt as a pattern and cut the shapes out, leaving a lot of excess leather around the edges. Then I cut the edges, in strips, down to the pattern size. Next, I tied every second or third strip with the corresponding ones on the adjoining panel, in to a knot.  I left the sleeves long so that they could be adjusted to who ever is wearing the jacket. Plus, it could cover your hands if it was snowing out.    The buttons were made of elk ivory teeth.

Great work. I am getting ready to make my first Native American warshirt with human hair tassels and all the lazy stitch beadwork.  hope mine turns out as well as your jacket.  I also plan to do it with no machine sewing.  You did an excellent job.
