This will be my first time making a gravel base for a brown trout. I am looking for some tips or tricks to make the base. Do you use aquarium gravel or something else?

Thanks in advanced for your help.

Do you pour envirotek (spelling) over the gravel to give it the wet look.

Thanks

Or you can spend about 4.00 for a can of clear gloss spray paint....  Wink

The problem with aquarium gravel is it is all the same size and will look like you used aquarium gravel. Natural stream beds are made up of multiple shaped and sized stones. You may beable to mix a bag with the larger stones of a similar color you can find at stores like Wal-Mart to get a better overall look.

Jknuth did a tutorial on making your own rocks and gravel using plaster and strirring it with a tool and a drill in a bucket. I haven't tried it but I am sure you can find if if you search around a bit.

here you go. I found it.

I have an article I wrote called Rock On on my website.
http://villagetaxidermist.com/Articles/Rock%20on.pdf

This makes great river gravel that you can paint to any color you want. You can set in envirotex or whatever clear you want. I just use elmers glue/water mix to stick it down and gloss it at the same time.
