What is the best casting material with a bondo mold if you do not want to use fiberglass resin and fiber? Thanks Ed

It depends upon what was molded?

I have bondo molds of cactus pads.  I mainly pour bondo into the bondo molds to make the repro cactus pads, but can also use IE 3030 or foam.

Ditto IE 30-30 is great but also you can use 320 from Smooth-on. These two work well.

What was molded? If it was a fish fin I'd use Fin Magic. If it was a fish head I would probably just use Bondo. If it was a morel, you couldn't use Bondo. Lots of answers to that question.

Sorry for the nonspecific question. The object being molded would be a whole fish. And it would be a two piece mold. Thanks for the responses so far. Ed

I use thinned bondo as you would use gelcoat, then laminate the fiberglass and resin. I wouldn't use straight Bondo though.

I use car wax and car wax only....no problems what-so-ever.

I have pulled over a hundred casts from my bondo cactus molds and they do just fine.

I too use car wax, followed by a coat of PVA. Makes an easy job even easier. Wink
