Catching lightning in a jar since 1985.

« on: July 06, 2011, 01:08:20 PM »

This is my most recent piece. Its colored pencil on 14" x 17" bristol. Still has a ways to go. Not sure what to put in the background. Don't want to take away from the birds.

Thanks...I thought about water...but I'm not so sure. If I did water id want the limb they're sitting on to be protruding from the water and I've already done to much work on it to cover it with more color. I was thinking maybe just doing several small branches in the background to give the appearance that they're in a dead tree. Or maybe some branches with moss hanging to make it look like cypress trees. I don't know...I hate doing backgrounds and scenery...haha.

I like the idea of the cypress moss and a few simple limbs. Right now the composition is pretty well horizontal. Strands of moss hanging down would pull it together nicely, in my opinion.

Beautiful work, by the way! =)
