I was looking today to try to find some kind of plaster to do my half cast with. I've only done a few so far and I used up the bag I got from WASCO. At Lowe's I saw a 15 lb. box of Plaster of Paris for 8 bucks. I also noticed a 20# bag of 20 min. quick set drywall mud mix for 8 or 9 bucks. Will either of these work to make half casts? Huh

The Lowes I go to carries a 25# bag of Plaster of Paris in the painting materials area. Look for that.

Thanks Doug,
Is there any difference in Plaster of Paris and the Molding Plaster that WASCO sells or are they the same thing?

Molding plaster and plaster of paris are just about the same. I am sure there may be slight differences but nothing to get all tied up about.

‘casting plaster’ is just a more specific term for plaster-of-Paris while it is still a powder, e.g. in the bag, etc. Unlike other types of gypsum, casting plaster is very pourable once mixed with water but sets quite suddenly, usually at somewhere between 10 and 30 minutes, depending on the variety.
I prefer Dental plaster which is both harder and stronger, but POP will work just fine.
