I had to sell my human skull but figured I would have a little fun with him before he got packed up. I named him Abner. I just finished a photography course...I'm still learning but I'm HOOKED. All taken with my Nikon D60.

That looks neat.. Too bad you had to sell it. Do you collect anything else like jarred specimens?

They're pretty cool shots. However I'd be so freaked out to have a human skull.  Grin

I don't have any jarred specimens ...yet! I hope to get some in the future.

I definitely had to sell it. The person who processed the skull was a doctor but knew very little about bone preservation and (I think) bleached it. It was very fragile - to the point of crumbling to dust. In fact the first night I had it I broken that chip off the front tooth! I had always wanted one - but I wanted an old "looking" one. I prefer natural white (or dirty) to pristine white bone.

I REALLY like the first picture.  It looks like something from a dream.  Good job.

As for the condition of the skull...sorry it was crumbling.  Sad

I'd be interested to know the gender/ethnicity of Abner if you know.  I'd love to have a human skull too.  There's a certain creepy factor, but still.  I'd treat him/her with respect & all that of course.

I don't know for sure on the ethnicity but all signs point to caucasian. And Abner was definitely a male. Sexing between male and female from the lower mandible is rather easy. Females have a much smaller area of bone between the teeth and the chin - and it is usually much more narrow. See a male and female skull next to each other and the difference is very distinct. If I didn't have the lower jaw it would be really tough to tell.
And yes, I agree - one of the major issues I was having was in finding a suitable glass enclosure for it for protection. I know it might just be a piece of bone to some, but I felt as if it did command more respect than the average cow skull and need to be housed as such.
