Coming over from Australia for Course
«

Hi
i've had a look at the other forums about recommendations about taxidermist schools and cant make a decision. i have had a look at alot of course outlines on the internet and what past students have said about each school. i am coming over from Australia as we do not have any taxidermist schools over here and really need strong reccomendations of which school or side of america to go to for the courses.
i dont have a problem in doing a few courses at different schools but need to know which ones to go to.
Thanks
Darryn

Hi Darryn,
I live in Canada and work throughout Australia, New Zealand and Southern Asian countries. I'm an auditor for both off shore and on shore oil rigs and have travelled your part of the world and am familiar with your wildlife in those regions. I work 6 months of the year and do taxidermy the other 6 months hoping to retire to strictly do taxidermy.
I would recommend going to see different taxidermists in order to be the best in those categories that would benefit you and be the best in your country. You can talk with the professionals in their fields and arrange to see them possibly in the same time frame so that your trips are minimal to the United States. The following is how I would recommend to cover your interests.
Gameheads - Bill Yox
Lifesize Game - Dennis Harris
Fish - Rick Krane (you need to learn reproductions as most fish will be from the ocean)
Reptiles - Dan (known as Psycho on the forum) does seminars Adan you need to talk to him to see if he would instruct you as you do have an enormous amount of reptiles in Australia.
These are the instructors that I would see to make you a rounded off taxidermist in your country. I'm not familiar with which birds you are able to hunt there as the ones that I normally see are usually protected. I would send these individuals a personal message explaining your situation and I'm sure they would be of great assistance to you. They are know as the best in their fields and will not hesitate to assist you. If you require more information send me a personal message and I will be pleased to assist you.
Regards,
Sam

Hello Darryn,
I think you might want to check into Western Pennsylvania School Of Taxidermy. Marc Jordan instructs and owns his own taxidermy studio and school combined. Marc has great ability in teaching this art. I graduated from his school in the spring of 2009 and have since opened my own shop. the course was a complete course including life- size, game heads, fish and birds (including turkey) Marc is a fine person and can be trusted to give you the training your looking for. One thing I liked from attending his school is that the door is always open to his students after graduation. If you need help or further instruction with anything, Marc is always there. Marc had two other guys who work his taxidermy shop that is attached to the school which was awesome. If when your caught up on a subject ahead of the others in your class, He encourages you to go watch and ask questions to the other guys. Shawn and Jason are excellent in their work as well. Very friendly, no pressure atmosphere. I selected Marc and his staff and am very great full to them, I would recommend them to anyone. Check his site under instruction and please call him. You won't be disappointed.
Thanks, Lance
