I live in Wisconsin WHY?

Over the last few days I have been taking some time to brows through this section of the forums. I am ashamed to say I dont look in here as much as I should.
There is some beautiful work in here.

Here are a few projects I have been playing with. Some wildlife related some not.

First are a few Illustrations I have been doing of various fish species.
These were all drawn on a graphic tablet digitally using various photographs for reference.

The next project is for fun, I am trying to learn different digital painting techniques (brushes, styles....) I finally found one I am fairly comfortable with. Feels like a mix of soft pastels and oil painting.
The first picture is based on a photograph. I have two monitors set up, one had the original picture and the other was my painting. This one was an exercise on working with lighting, specifically under lite surfaces and reflected colors. It was fun.

The next is based on a photo I took of my wife on a recent hiking trip. I did a black pen drawing and scanned it in and began to paint it using photos and my lovely wife when she wasn't too busy to sit for me.
this one is very early on, I have just laid out the basic colors (cools and warms) and am starting to darken and solidify her face.
I am not sure if Ill even finish it all the way, I like seeing the unfinished area next to the finished.

Its been a while since I drew figures. I am starting to really remember why I loved doing it.

Thanks Anna.

I am using Photoshop 7 and a simple Wacom Graphire 3 tablet. Nothing huge the tablet surface is 4X6".
I also use two monitors. One as my workstation with reference and my brushes. and the other as the main drawing area. Both monitors are 22" so I have a good mount of work space.

One trick that helps alot is using as large of an image size as you can. My gar were drawn at 300dpi resolution at 36" long. The painting of my Wife is 300 dpi and very large, All and all it is slightly over life size. This allows me to zoom in with a small brush and work. This is something that you can do that is unique to Digital graphics.

I miss the smell and feel of the real stuff but it is nice to be able to sit down and work when every I want without setting up paint and a drawing table.  A big bonus to me since I have been nursing a leg injury the last few days. Its nice to sit and work in a clean environment and not have to worry about getting paint on my carpet. lol
The only thing to really watch for is monitor calibration, you want your colors to be true.

Looks great Josh! Love those fish and your figure drawing has so much balance in its structure. Definitely shows an understanding of what lies beneath the surface.
