By looking for something close to home, you do realize that you are asking someone to train their own competition.
Not likely to have much luck.
I did find such an opportunity myself....it was in Maine. I live in Florida.

You might want to try going to school instead.  Chip Stamper at Missouri Taxidermy Institute is a fantastic teacher in Linn Creek Missouri right outside of Camdenton.   That school was worth every dime for me.   It's not terrible far from Springfield.

Thanks for the nice words Donn Sue. We appreciate it. "Mandolinmama", what a great name for you.   William if you think school might be for you, give Carrie or Jennifer in the office, a call.  They will be more than happy to send you an information packet.  Or, if you are in the area stop by and visit us.   You are welcome to come by during class and visit with the students.  Get the opinion of those in the "trenches".  We do not have another class until January.  We don't schedule classes in the heart of hunting season.  Just too busy in our taxidermy shop.

Thanks,
Chip Stamper

William, dont be discouraged if you dont find an apprenticeship opportunity. Its very difficult as most folks are so busy, etc, its not a slight against you personally. The advice to check into training such as Chip at MTI is as good an advice as youll get. Once you get some training, your own experience will open many more dorrs for you. Good luck with your taxidermy interest.

I'm fighting the same problem william, I did go and take a class from paul witt whao is a great taxidermist. I have 4 others in my area doing taxi work so I've got to be creative on where to find work and everybody is slow around me. I did offer a fleshing/wet tanning service for other taxidermist and picked up some critters that way. I have more money going out than coming in for sure. Good luck and this is the web page you can learn alot on.
