This is how I skin out a rat or mouse tail. Every month or so, someone asks how to do it and it's a lot easier to post pics then it is to put it into words Cheesy
The only tools you'll need is a small blade, a thumbnail and your index finger.

I use the blade to skin down the tail enough to start working it with my fingers.

Then pinch the skin between my thumbnail and index finger and in a scraping motion start working the skin down towards the tip of the tail. Keep some tension with your other hand but don't pull.

At some point you'll feel the bone with start sliding right out.

And that's it Grin

This rat was no good. TOTALLY freezer burnt. I just figured I'd get some pics of doing the tail so I could show how I do them.
I have another one in the freezer I'll try in a week or so.

Now can you please show how to skin out a deer's tail? Cheesy I tried on one...had a devil of a time, skin kept splitting...ugh ugh ugh.

This'll be nifty once all those four week old's in the shed are all grown up.

I have a tail stripper for anything bigger than a rat. Start off the same way by skinning down as far as you and so you can get the tool around the base of the tail bone, choose which slot will work the best, close and grip it good and pull. The bone will slide right out.

The one I have looks like this.

If you have one of those plastic tail strippers, you can drill a hole in it for rat/squirrel/mink/mouse tails. Smiley
