Hello all I have a quick question regarding tanning,
I am tanning a deer cape and have done all the fleshing, salting, and pickling, and started the tanning process yesterday afternoon.
I am using Lutan-F as my tanning agent, my only question is how do I know when it is done tanning???  The instructions say anywhere from 24 to 48 hours?
Thanks everyone in advance.

One of two ways.  One: slice the hide and see if the coloration is consistent throughout or Two: press your thumbnail down into the hide HARD.  Hold it for a few seconds and then watch the hide.  If the indentation remains, the hide is tanned.  If it resolves, it needs to be put back in the tan.

Thanks George for the info,

I just squeezed the hide between my thumbs and the indentations stayed so I guess its time to come out.
