repairing antlers
«

I am about to try my first antler repair project & wanted some feedback before I started. So far I have saw M. Pinchbacks method, saw the tutorial on using the epoxy sculpt, & been told about cutting an antler from a scrap rack & attaching it. Right now I am leaning towards Pinchback's method but wanted to hear from some taxidermist experienced in this type of project. So let me know what you think would be the best way for a beginner to do the repairs.

I use epoxy antler sculpt on a very regular basis and love it only drawback is unless you have a slug of the older stuff it now cures a light grey instead of white. So it has to be painted with paint, which is not too hard.

hey, I'm M. Pinchback, I've used the epoxie method, but after learning how to make reproduction antlers, I came up with this method of RTV casting the point and moving it over. There are a few others that have similar methods. The results can't be beat, but it does cost a little more to get into it. Your customers will thank you for learning a new method with excellent results.
hope that helps.

Marshell, does this for a living. he dont do much taxidermy his main source of income in antler reproduction and repair. If you can follow his methods they will produce very well for you once you get the hang of it.
