I would like to offer a Mold Making and Casting seminar specifically tailored to taxidermy applications. I am looking for 5 to 6 persons that would be interested in traveling to my shop in Michigan for a weekend of molding and casting. Students would be asked to bring items to mold and cast that are a reasonable, smaller, in size. Silicone rubber for mold making and casting resins will be provided as part of the seminar.

Students will learn multiple mold making techniques, such as brush on molds, block molds, thin walled molds. We will also use multiple casting techniques such as poured, slush casting, squash casting and rotary casting. Students will also get to use vacuum chambers and pressure pots to really see the difference good tools can make. Miscellaneous materials such as clay, mold release, mold construction material, stir sticks and mixing bucket will also be provided in the seminar.

There will be a cost to the class in the range of $300 to $500 per person depending on the total number of people. Based on response, the class will be scheduled either early December or the end of January.

At this time I am just checking the waters to see if there is firm interest in this type of seminar. Any interest? If so respond to this post or PM me.

I'd be interested but going to Michigan in December or January does not really appeal to me......spring or fall would be great.

I have interest in doing this so long as I can get enough time off of my job that provides the benefits to get out there and back. I will watch this post and let you know as the interest rolls in if I can work enough days off during the stint that becomes learning time.

After 24 years in Alaska I wouldn't say I'm scared of snow and ice, just wise enough to avoid it when I can.

Yea a different time of the year would be better, I'm pretty busy with deer season and working on my competition mounts at that time of the year.  Summer would work the best for me...

I have a feeling that no matter when I set a time someone is going to have a reason for me to change it. I think I will just set a date and go for it. I will let you know in a week.

To all that are interested I am going to set the date for this class to

Friday April 20th through the 23rd. That's a weekend class.
The price is $375 per person (a $150 deposit required to hold your spot) Price includes lunches and dinners Friday and Saturday.
Class will start at noon on Friday and end at noon on Sunday.
Nearest place if you are flying in is Flint (30 minute drive) or Detroit (1.5 hour drive)
For lodging, there are a few hotels in Lapeer (15 minute drive). There is a best western and a Holiday Inn express.

PM me to get more details.
Also, let me know in the PM what you would like to mold and cast. Other details at the top of this post.

My address is:
The Village Taxidermist
4030 Oak St.
