does anyone collect real wood, branches ,sm stumps for thier habitats? Is so, whats the best way to debug them to make them safe. Or do you advise against it. I do fish only for now and I like to put stumps in my habitats. I see some nice potential stumps in the woods near my house)))
thanks for your input in advance

I use the real wood all the time, if it has bugs in it which most of it dose i would suggest go to your local hardware store and get some kind of bug spray like seven or other commercal bug killers.

I spray mine with that bug stop from Lowe's. That stuff is great, you can use it around your doors on the inside and outside. Once it dries it will last for about 3 weeks, killing everything that comes in contact with it. Works well with anything you might want to use in a habitat, but were afraid to use because of bugs. Hope this helps and enjoy.

When the moisture leaves so will the bugs. And any bugs that are hungry for wood probably wont be interested in any animal material. This is just my opinion, I could be wrong, I think I remember being wrong once before. Smiley

YOU CAN USE SOME BUG SPRAY FIRST, BUT THIS STEP YOU HAVE TO DO...GET YOU SOME DENATURED ALCOLIOL FROM THE HARDWARE STORE. PUT IT IN A SPRAY BOTTLE AND SPRAY IT,LET DRY AND REPETE THIS TWO MORE TIMES.. AND IF YOU REALLY WANT TO GO A STEP FURTHER AND THIS IS WANT I DO BECAUSE I CAN'T TAKE A CHANCE ON BUGS IN MY CLIENTS TROPHY ROOM...I ALSO MIX BORAX AND WATER AND SPRAY IT TWICE.. GOOD LUCK. RICK KENNAIR.......SORRY WHEN MOISTURE LEAVES NOT ALL THE BUGS DO..

I use wood I find all the time. Just make sure it's not rotting. I soak all my wood in clorox water. Then it's best to store inside of a dry place like your shop or in a shed.
