hello! just found your forums and new.
I have been doing jewelry for years and work mainly in chainmaile and my father came to me with a rattler thinking I could make it into a neck piece for him.  Problem is what I use would make it stiff and kill the noise. I read something about a flexable sealant I could use to retain the rattle sound but not sure what or how to do it and was wondering if anyone here could help me with the info. I did search thru the forums a bit to find something on it but nothing for a neck piece with just the rattler.
Any ideas or help would be great!

Thank you for your time

Well, if you put anything on the rattle or coat it with anything you will reduce the amount of "rattle" it will be able to do.  If you are putting it on a necklace who cares if it makes noise?  If you want to protect the brittle rattle then brush any type of sealant on it.  But for it to make noise (rattle) it must be dry with nothing on it.

little noise is good. guess no noise is fine, I suppose sturdy for long term would be better. LOVE your hat piece. what type of sealant did you use?

You can use just about anything from brush on clear coats to aresol cans.  I like Krylon matte finish for a lot of stuff that normally doesn't have that wet look.

Beware with modge podge, if you don't have another sealant on top, it gets sticky for some reason (think dust collector long term!) - I  believe it says its recommended to use another sealant on top - but I was just using the normal stuff, so if you're using one with glitter, or matte finish or other than the original, it may be different Smiley
