Advice on casting resin grizzly claws
«

I was wondering if anyone had experience in casting reproduction grizzly bear claws in resin? This is my first venture into molding and casting. I was planning on using Alumilite brand resin and then noticed that Polytranspar makes resin. I assume I would use a clear resin and add some dye to maintain the claws translucence. Any advice on getting started would be great!

The clear resin is the artificial water, there are several other two part resins that will also do the job. The WASCO two part urethane swells a good bunch so if your mold is not strong it will distort the casting.. There is some otehr stuff that does not swell as much and is translucent. Polymer guy on here sells it and yes you can add certain dyes to one part of the two part mix before mixing. Tempera paints work very well and it does not take much. you can streak the mold with a few of different colors in mixed resin. then do the main pour and it will be fine.. a gloss over all of it or just paint the casting and gloss over it.
