I have always been set in my ways, when it comes to shaving machines, but I found this machine to be a refreshing change, and way more than I expected! Shocked

A buddy of mine bought one, and wants me to teach him how to shave, so I finally had access to one, other than a passing glance at a Taxidermy convention.

1. According to my friend, his customer experience was great. Product knowledge, quick ordering, and friendly folks to deal with, were all good.

2. The machine was quick and simple to get up and running. Blade change was simple.

3. Nearly every bolt on the machine had a allen head, which wont have to be replaced as often as hex bolts. If you shave alot, you will find yourself replacing hex bolts more often, because they are quick to round on the corners. All stainless of course.

4. At first, I was a little apprehensive about a machine made out of aluminum. But I was wrong. It was built like a TANK! Very heavy, and built to last, from all appearances. Very little vibration, and the knife ran true, straight out of the box. I honestly cant imagine they make much profit, based on the selling price.

5. I found it very easy to steel, due to the open area at the top, where it should be.

6. Guard adjustment was easy. What has been labled micro-adjustmets, was really just a different approach to guard adjustments, weather they be big or small. The guards were good and long, which enables you to take a very wide cut. I litterally think I can achieve cuts up to 8" wide plus. All he had to shave today, was a coon hide, but, once I get my hands on a bigger skin, I will post a few pics to show you it can be done.

All in all, I cant imagine a machine being built any better, and it is worth the money you pay for it. I will finally be doing that training video I talked about for years, over the next few months. Gonna film it using this machine.

I only saw two problems, and neither were with the machine itself.
1. The tuning steels that come with it, are not very good. Don't feel like explaining.
2. He ordered a small lip, and the one he got, was 3/16 inch wide. What I consider to be a small lip, should be about 1/16 wide.
Both of these could possibly be considered personal preferences I guess.

Yall have a good one!

I love my pro. I have heard of some over time getting a vibration from barrings going out.  But so far not on mine.

LOL OS, I'm glad to hear that.  With all the advertising I've done for them, I figured Olas would have sent me one free, but I guess I'm going to have to either stick with my Rawhide or break down and just buy one myself. I loved it the first time I saw it, but I always wondered what a skilled tanner would think of it. Thanx.

Well I'm interessted because I have to get a new machine.  My Dakota IV has been very good to me over the last 10 to 12 years but it has been a pain too at times.  I'm in the market for a Dakota Pro, Eager Beaver or Rawhide so before I buy one I'll watch for your video OS.  George, I know I have sold a ton of those Dakota IV's for them as well over the last 10 to 12 years.  LOL  Hell Bob walked away at the World Show one year and looked at me and said, hell you got this just fine.  LOL  He said when I was done they had sold a few of them.  Grin  Thanks, Dan

I love mine.  While I don't really have anything to compare it with since it was the first machine I bought, it seemed pretty user friendly and does a great job.  It did take some practice at first, but once I got the guards adjusted to the right spot it worked great.  Recently I have had trouble getting the blade tuned properly, but just noticed another post that dealt with that issue.  I will be checking out my steels when I get home!  That may just be the problem.
