Hey, fwiw, I'm in Tennessee.  I have probably 10 bear skulls that I've acquired from a local taxidermist and cleaned from mounts where the owners did not want the skull.  Is there any outlet for these?  I think Federal law prevents me from selling these.  Any ideas?

A lot of people gift them. Smiley
If you sell something else, pass them out as freebies.

Confused here... I see bear skulls for sale all the time... doesn't it simply depend on state law?

Laws usually state you can't sell them if you don't have the proper papers I guess but they say nothing about gifting Smiley

It's per state, yes. In VA we can't sell them, for instance. in CA i think it's the same.
We can't sell them at all period the end.

I attended a public auction this summer of the estate of a friend of mine.  He had lots of guns and mounts.  His widow had advertized well and included bear heads and full body mounts.  Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency contacted them and informed them that they would come confiscate the bears if they remained on the list of auctions items.  They were not sold.

A great outlet for skulls you cannot sell is schools. I donate lots of animals skulls to schools. Kids are fascinated with skulls, so it's a great way to get them interested in science and wildlife. The best way to find teachers who are interested in skulls is through networking, starting with your kids' teachers, or ask your customers to ask their kids' teachers. If you want to go a more formal route you could contact representatives of the Tennessee Science Teachers Association: http://tnsta.com/Contact_TSTA.php
Not all teachers will be interested. A few will be anti-hunting, some will think it's gross, but many will jump at the chance to have animals skulls for their classrooms.

Anyone with bear parts in CA better have a validated tag to show where he got the parts. Who's to say a gifted bear skull isn't one poached by the skull holder?
